Sunday 2nd November – Pinkston Watersports
On Sunday 2nd November, Michael organised the first Johnny Brown Memorial Day with something on offer for all paddlers from Flat water sessions, one pump, two pump and three pump sessions during the day and ending with a 16 gate Speed Slalom.
It was a dry but cold and windy day. It was lovely to see so many paddlers and coaches come together and enjoy paddling. There were slalom boats everywhere and a buzz to Pinkston.

We were delighted with the support of Scottish Slalom coaches with Mikey leading the day with support from Neil, Jock, Anoushka, Arthur, Maddy, Micky, Morna, Rebecca, Freya, Spitt, Aimee, Ash, Gordon, Matthew, Aaron and Zara all coaching sessions. We also had help from Adam helping with Boat Safety and Nathan helping with the Speed Slalom. We had coaches from aged 18+ upwards all working together.
There were about 50 paddlers taking part aged 7 upwards being coached from across Scotland by some of their role models.
The classroom was booked to let paddlers have somewhere warm to sit between sessions and have a hot drink from the urn and cake.

Classroom sessions were organised for both parents and paddlers alike. For paddlers, Neil ran a workshop for Prem to Div 2 paddlers on Race Preparation and Training processes, what’s the link. Mikey and Neil ran a welcome meeting for all paddlers on Culture, behaviours and expectations, why we’ve succeeded in the past and Arthur ran a session on Watching Video – what can we learn.
Parent workshops were run by Helen Bradford and Gordon Cameron on Managing Emotions/Expectation followed by Jock on the Art of videoing.
A huge thanks to all those who ran the workshops, coached the sessions and the paddlers for making it such a positive day.
